Airport pick-up and an afternoon shaped to your pace: the Sidi Saiyyed jali and the Calico-textile-district lanes for some, the Sabarmati Riverfront and Atal Bridge at sunset for others. Dinner is a reserved table at a heritage-haveli restaurant in the old city — Gujarati thali done at its best, and a gentler first evening than a street-market crawl.

West in the comfort of an SUV, with the Adalaj stepwell before the highway and lunch at Bhuj, where an hour covers the Prag Mahal’s Gothic clock tower and the mirrored Aina Mahal beside it. You check into a premium air-conditioned tent at the Dhordo tent city — proper beds, attached bath, heater on winter nights — and walk out for your first Rann sunset before the folk performances begin.

Sunrise on the salt for the photographers, then Kala Dungar for the view across the white to the horizon. The afternoon is a private craft circuit — rogan painting with the Khatri family at Nirona, the bell-makers of Zura, weavers at Bhujodi — with time to buy at the workshop rather than the emporium. The evening is the Rann by moonlight, with a camel cart out to the viewing point and dinner back at the tent city.

The circuit’s single long day — around 450 km south, softened by the SUV, a proper Kathiyawadi lunch past Rajkot, and nothing planned on arrival except the pool at your jungle lodge. Dinner at the lodge, and an early night: the next thirty-six hours belong to the lions.

Two permits, booked the day your departure confirms. The dawn drive goes deep into the sanctuary with a forest guide; the afternoon drive takes a different route zone, and between them sits lunch at the lodge and, if you want it, the Devalia interpretation zone. Two drives roughly double the odds of a proper sighting — a pride at a kill, or a male walking the track — and the birdlife along the Hiran river is a show of its own.

East across Saurashtra with a stop at Junagadh’s Uparkot fort and the Ashokan rock edicts at the foot of Girnar hill, then the expressway to Vadodara by evening. If energy allows, the Laxmi Vilas Palace grounds — four times the size of Buckingham Palace and still a royal residence — close the day; otherwise the hotel spa does.

Ninety minutes to Ekta Nagar for the full site with gallery tickets bought ahead: the lift to the viewing gallery in Sardar Patel’s chest, 153 metres above the Narmada, the Sardar Sarovar dam viewpoint, and your pick of the valley extras — the jungle safari park, the cactus and butterfly gardens, or a Narmada boat ride. The evening laser-and-sound show on the statue closes the trip, with the night at a resort in the statue precinct.

A slow morning by the Narmada, then the ninety-minute drive to Vadodara airport for your flight home. An Ahmedabad airport drop (about three hours) can be arranged instead at no extra charge if your fares work out better there.
